Real people say real things...
Tom Duncan: "Thanks for writing this book, Tony Thompson! Our communities often have good mental health support capability, while also having enormous gaps in capacity. For the “20%” with Severe Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) who likely lack insight to even understand they have a mental illness (e.g. Schizophrenia), they are either abandoned or more likely, their actions are criminalized. Putting our jail system and law enforcement officials on the front lines of the mental health crisis. Appreciate your advocacy for those who can’t speak for themselves."
Angela Orr: "Omg. Those who know me know that I do not read books at at all. Also I am passionate about mental illness and remain involved with the Black Hawk chapter for NAMI-National Alliance for Mental Illness. I co lead support groups with local community members and professionals who attend. This book definitely hits exactly how I feel about how our criminal justice system and mental illness work. It also validates what individuals with mental illness and their family members are experiencing when a crisis occurs.
This is definitely is an amazing well written book and I wanted to support local too. Thank you Tony Thompson for taking this path to another dimension and advocating! I cannot put the book down and will finish it in less than 24hrs."
Sheriff Brad Kunkel: "I just finished your book yesterday, well worth the read!! Congrats Sheriff!"
Deanne Leistikow: " I'm sure this book will be great! You are an awesome speaker and you always kept people engaged in your presentations."
Vicki Kooker: " I skimmed the previews of your new book and can't wait to sit down and read the whole book. As long as I've known you, I've admired your integrity, commitment, ingenuity, and leadership. So proud to call you my friend. What's next? "
Arnell Ernst: " Congratulations and thank you for speaking up about the biggest (in my opinion) challenge we are all facing (mental health delivery in the state). Perhaps not everyone realizes the significant snow ball affect denial of mental health care is causing. Maybe this book can open some eyes."
Eva Garcia: " Tony, Congratulations! And Thank you for recognizing real issues and making a stand. Your a person of intellect, integrity, compassion for the human condition and honor. Thank you for the years of service being our Sheriff."
June Hardwick: "Just ordered Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson's book. Notice it is #1 Best Seller in the Mental Health Law category. I can't wait to read it."
Jen Peck Bloker: " Wrapping up the year with my December reads. This puts me at 70 books for the year. A few of these were short stories. My favorite this month was Big Lights, Big Christmas and a worthy, non-fiction was Anyplace But Here, by Sheriff Tony Thompson."
